Practice and Improve Your French

 Practice and Improve Your French
Ntc Pub Audio | English | 1988 |  125+183 pages | PDF/MP3 | 147 MB

This relaxed, enjoyable language course combines audio and text to introduce vocabulary, grammar and cultural information for intermediate students of French. The Practice & Improve language programs are a specially designed series that allows you to capitalize on the foreign language skills you already have to develop your ability to communicate in everyday situations.

Designed for relaxed and repeated listening, each Practice & Improve program concentrates on realistic, spoken language through the use of four 60-minute cassette tapes. These tapes feature authentic French, in stereo, spoken at a natural pace and rhythm by native speakers - just as you would encounter it in France or other French-speaking countries. Each scene is interspersed with music and short practice sections that highlight useful language points.

Two books are also included to aid your language learning: a Listening Guide containing a complete transcript of the cassette recordings and a Handbook offering instruction on vocabulary and grammar. Both books supplement the program's main activity - listening.

Glanville Price, “An Introduction to French Pronunciation
Wiley-Blackwell | 2005-07-11 | 192 pages | PDF | 1 MB

In order to speak French as it is spoken by native-speakers, one needs not only to hear the language, but to know what to listen for. This comprehensive and accessible guide to current French pronunciation fulfils precisely this need.
The first three chapters outline the book's aims, level and scope, as well as the general principles of French phonetics. The author also alerts the reader to regional variations in the pronunciation of French. He then turns to specifics, including vowels, semi-consonants and consonants, providing the reader with the basic knowledge needed to understand later chapters which discuss these parts of speech at greater length. Interspersed are other chapters covering such important aspects of French pronunciation as rhythmic groups, the syllable, liaison and intonation.
The orientation of An Introduction to French Pronunciation’s is consistently practical, and phonetic theory and technical terminology are kept to the minimum necessary. It will be of interest to anyone with a basic knowledge of French who needs help and advice in achieving a more authentic pronunciation.
